Receive a Botswana Endorsement of a Foreign License
Mariner and Seafarer Licensing & Certification Program
The Botswana Maritime Affairs Mariner and Seafarer Licensing and Certification Program is a comprehensive, solutions-based initiative designed to provide international seafarers with direct access to the flag state Administration for their training, certification, and maritime human resources needs.
This program gives full and complete effect to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended. Botswana is recognized as a “White List” nation, enabling mariners to obtain their original Certificates of Proficiency (COP) and Certificates of Competency (COC) in accordance with the STCW Code.
Direct Issuance and Endorsement
Mariners and seafarers may receive their original certificates and endorsements directly from Botswana Maritime Affairs, or they may have original COPs and COCs issued by another administration endorsed by the Botswana Office of Marine Personnel.
Those wishing to transfer their original COPs and/or COCs to Botswana-issued originals may do so by completing a written examination, provided their original documents are validated by the issuing administration.

Officer Endorsement
In order to receive a Botswana Endorsement to a foreign COC, you will need to submit the following:
- Completed Application Form
- Recent Medical Form
- Record of your sea time
